Welcome back to Year 1 

I hope you all had a lovely half term!

Spellings and homework go out on a Wednesday. Homework books should be returned to school on Monday and spellings will also be tested.

Children should be heard read three times a week and strive for five if possible. For every 10 home reads your child achieves they will be issued a certificate in recognition of their hard work. Children will read to an adult at school at least once a week.

We will have PE on a Wednesday morning and a Thursday afternoon this half term. We recommend that your child leaves their PE kit in school during the week in case we have any timetable changes.


Please find below an outline of the areas of learning for our half term.

In Numeracy we will be Measures: Length and Height.
In Reading we will be We will be working in our guided reading groups. Our focus author will continue to be Mini Grey.
In Literacy we will be We will continue to learn how to write reports and begin to write instructions.
In RE we will be Learning about The Easter Story.
In topic we will be We will be looking at ‘Did your grandparents have as much fun as you do?’ .
In PE we will be Learning all about preparing the body for exercise and what fitness means.
In ICT we will be Learning about using the iPads to Login and navigate Mathletics.
In Science we will be Thinking about how Design & Technology can link to science and we will be looking at good food hygiene rules and using kitchen equipment to prepare food.


Your support at home is invaluable. Please help your children with their phonics, spellings, reading, sounds, homework, counting, 2, 5 and 10 times tables and number bonds as frequently as you can.
