What makes us a christian school?
As a Christian school, we seek God’s guidance, Jesus’ presence and the happiness and well-being of those around, in everything we do. Our Christian Vision drives all aspects of our school:
Within God's family we nurture, teach and support each other, opening doors for all. Our Christian Values help us to flourish in school and in our community as beacons radiating the light of Jesus in all that we do.
Daily Collective Worship provides the opportunity for members of our school family to worship God, consider spiritual and moral issues and explore their own beliefs. A child from each class brings a lantern into Collective Worship to respresent being a 'Beacon of light' for Jesus linking to our school vision. We have strong links with our local Church St Thomas' - Clergy lead Collective worship every Monday, a team from church lead 'Open the book' worship on Wednesdays and Reverend Gill delivers 'Messy Church' workshops to every class through the year. Gill and other members of our church community also help to run our termly Values days. We visit the church regularly (for services and as part of our RE curriculum when appropriate) and the congregation attend our half termly communion services at school.
Each half term, we focus on a Christian Value and have a memory verse from the bible that underpins it. These values are Love, Community, Kindness, Respect, Courage and Resilience. Each class has a reflection area with interactive prayer spaces based on the value, our daily Collective Worship also reflects these Values.
Our termly 'Values' days are a huge success as pupils engage in a variety of activities based around our Christian Values. These include workshops such as Prayer Spaces, bible study, values games, Fair trade, crafts, visitors etc.
We have a dedicated 'Ethos team' comprising of pupils from Years 1 - 6 who meet every week to carry out various tasks relating to our Christian ethos and Vision such as helping to deliver Collective worship, planning 'Values' days and helping to develop Prayer Spaces.
